In case I'm not the last person on lj to hear about the upcoming adaptation of John le Carré's Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (which I read about five times in junior high, just saying), see the cast. So... that'll be the next big kink meme, I take it. With even less characters of color than Inception!

This post is really my way of saying no, I have not started my Yuletide fic, and yes, I have instead written 5500+ words of self-indulgent AU in the last week. More, actually, because every night I have also significantly rewritten at least one major chunk of the story thus far. Which is not how I usually operate. As I was saying to winterspel, gee, it would be great if some day I could actually repeat my process from one story to the next... Starting to reach the uncertainty threshold, at which point I will probably have to post an excerpt under lock, because this is shaping up to be way too long - and too dependent on plot - to deal with in a vacuum.

+ New club bonding, version one. Aww. ♥ (Plus the international week - as I said to meretricula, the significance of the Argentina match as far as I'm concerned is that Silva's exile from the starting lineup is over.)

+ New club bonding, version two. I repeat: aww. (What's that you say? Saturday? That was a training exercise to acclimate Zlatan to the team, right?)

+ The weekend's La Liga results. Incidentally, the last couple weeks have made it clear both that Benz is Mou's latest project for the One Mourinho Muppet World and that it seems to be off to a promising start. Also happy to see O_Ozil acquitting himself quite well. :D

+ And here's Sid Lowe on Barcelona - Hércules (SO MANY PUNS, SO LITTLE TIME) from a neutral perspective, heartwarming feel-good angle and all. I like heartwarming feel-good angles, all right.

Diana Wynne Jones' House of Many Ways, which I quite enjoyed, as I expected to. Howl never fails to entertain. Although I really could do without the current juvenile/YA publishing trend to make moderate-length books HP-sized by manipulation of font, margins, paper quality, etc. I realized something was wrong when I was reading multiple pages a minute, and I'm a fast reader but not that fast. XD;

Several Mary Stewart novels, both new to me and rereads. This Rough Magic still takes the cake, though The Moonspinners is close and I have always been inordinately fond of Wildfire at Midnight. (I never got the huge appeal of Nine Coaches Waiting or The Ivy Tree, though. I liked them both all right but in Ivy Tree I never really warmed up to Adam and Mary was much more interesting before you found out *spoiler*, and in Nine Coaches I was very fond of Phillippe -- I always like Stewart's children/teenagers, I adored Colin in Moonspinners -- but the Gothic romance model just doesn't do it for me, I guess.)

Parhelion's Hurrah for Hollywood quartet, which I have always been inordinately fond of. Do I ever love Angelo Gerello, omg. The whole point for me of reading the quartet's final story, which I never really warmed up to, is always the final scene cameo (Angelo's "alarming version of a smile" ♥), as well as the various other references to and appearances by first-three characters. (Sid! Will! Nigel! Edwards & Schulman, my second favorites!) Has anyone else read these...?

Not entirely coincidentally, a large pile of nonfiction related to golden age Hollywood (if one wants historical background for the above quartet, William J. Mann's Behind the Screen is a good place to start), interwar Britain, Noël Coward, and Lorenz Hart. I read by chronological era, I suppose? XD;

Approximately a metric ton of Torchwood fanfiction.

So I'm feeling really contrary about writing right now and want to write nothing but, like, light-hearted fluffy entertainment until the end of time just to protest against the idea that something else is preferable. XD;;; Also I don't want to do any of the things I should be doing (cleaning, appointment-making, fic challenges) so. Perfect opportunity to, um, steal an idea from unrequitedangst from a while back -- give me an AU prompt and I'll write you a snippet for it. Offer good for the rest of the day or until I actually decide to be productive; author reserves the right to refuse Koki/Kame any unreasonable request.
