So I'm feeling really contrary about writing right now and want to write nothing but, like, light-hearted fluffy entertainment until the end of time just to protest against the idea that something else is preferable. XD;;; Also I don't want to do any of the things I should be doing (cleaning, appointment-making, fic challenges) so. Perfect opportunity to, um, steal an idea from
unrequitedangst from a while back -- give me an AU prompt and I'll write you a snippet for it. Offer good for the rest of the day or until I actually decide to be productive; author reserves the right to refuse Koki/Kame any unreasonable request.

Date: 2008-07-04 12:28 am (UTC)The young man's first slurred words, as his eyes fluttered open, were, "Not so hard."
Kame rocked back on his heels. "I'm sorry?"
The young man blinked, several times, and squinted up at Kame. There was a mark by the corner of his right eye. "Who – " He paused to clear his throat and spoke in a voice that was still husky. "Who are you?"
"Kamenashi Kazuya." Kame frowned. "Who are you?"
The young man didn't answer. Slowly, he eased himself up on his hands and looked around. A spacious apartment: glass and chrome, natural lighting, open spaces. Spotlessly clean, except for the slab of grimy cardboard in the middle of the room and the disheveled young man resting on top of it. He looked down and touched the cardboard curiously.
"I cut the box apart," Kame said. "I thought it would be better if you could lie flat. I didn't know if it was safe to move you any further." The truth of it was that Kame wasn't entirely sure whether or not he could have lifted this man in the first place.
The young man said, "Thanks." Cautiously, he took his weight off his hands and sat up all the way. "Do you live here?"
"Yes." Kame paused. "If you'd like to make a call, you can use my phone. Otherwise there's a hospital nearby. I'm sure they can check you over."
The young man appeared not to hear him. He said instead, "Do you have anything to eat?"
At Kame's expression he said apologetically, like it was actually an explanation, "I haven't eaten anything in a few days. I'm starving."
"Of course," Kame said mechanically. He didn't know what else to say. "Would you like to sit at the table?"
The young man got to his feet and, wincing, stretched. He was in good shape, broad-shouldered, in good shape, Kame noticed as he went to the kitchen.
He’d been planning to take the leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Instead he piled the small plate with broiled mackerel and pan fried vegetables, scooped a heaping bowl of rice. The young man ate so quickly that Kame was half-certain his chopsticks blurred as Kame watched in disbelief.
When every trace of fish and grain of rice had disappeared, he set the chopsticks down with a contented sigh. "Thanks for the meal," he said beatifically. "It was delicious."
Kame wasn't sure if "thank you" was really the correct response given the circumstances, but he said it anyway. "It's getting late," he added. "If you're feeling better, you should probably go to the hospital right away. Or home, if you want to leave before the trains stop running." Kame didn't own a car, which was probably fortunate as he didn’t want to find himself saying yes if the young man asked for a ride.
The young man looked up quickly. "Oh," he said, and chewed on his lower lip. "Oh." His eyes darted uncertainly to the side. "I thought maybe, um."
Kame waited and said nothing, despite the sinking feeling in his stomach.
The young man licked his lips. "I thought maybe I could sleep here tonight – just on the floor," he hastened to add, as Kame's mouth dropped open in spite of himself. "I don't have money for a hospital." He was talking very quickly now, almost tripping over his words. "And I don't have anywhere else to stay anymore, you cut up my box – "
"What?" Kame interrupted. “I – your box? You were living in a box? That box?" He recalled the filthy, ragged cardboad and barely repressed a shudder.
The young man's brow furrowed. "Well, yeah," he said, like it was obvious.
Kame stared at the young man. He looked back, expectant and unblinking. His eyes were very wide, perfectly almond-shaped, and very dark. Kame was disconcertingly reminded of the puppy he’d had in middle school.
"What's your name?" he said. When the young man didn't answer, he let a tinge of exasperation creep into his voice. "You can hardly expect me to let someone whose name I don't even know stay in my apartment, can you?"
The swiftness and unexpected force of the young man's smile almost made Kame stagger.
"Jin," he said. "I'm Jin."
