So I still have time to slip in fervent happy birthday wishes to [livejournal.com profile] ina, a wonderful friend, fangirl, tour guide, okonomiyaki cook, and just an all around great person and someone I'm so happy to be able to know. :) I hope you had a lovely day and that you have a good visit back home, and as we've said many times I can't wait until we can meet again (in Japan!). ♥♥♥

Book-wise today I snagged the latest installment in [livejournal.com profile] naominovik's Temeraire series and just finished it about an hour ago. An excellent read, as always, although a little darker than the previous books. And, okay, my Napoleonic-era history is not very strong so I had no idea that Wellesley would end up as Wellington and laughed out loud at the reveal at the end. And Temeraire and Laurence are going to [livejournal.com profile] wintersjuly-land Australia! *_* ...which in retrospect should not have surprised me since I remember reading a comment from an Australian fan saying Novik had told her the sixth book would take place in Australia, ahahaha. Also no characters died that I can't live without and there's more of my very favorite character (THARKAY ♥_♥ would anyone like to write me Tharkay fic) and I have high hopes that he will figure prominently in the next books since... there aren't as many people in Australia to compete with him for screen time. :D I did want to see what happened to Ferris, though, I hope he came out of everything all right. I seem to easily become attached to the crew officers; Granby is another big favorite, although admittedly moreso before he became a captain. >_> Everyone I know seems to be into the Laurence/Temeraire which is all well and good but I wouldn't mind some purely human slashfic. Pick two of the following and combine: Laurence, Granby, Tharkay. :D)

What it really makes me want is crossover fic, though. *g* The books haven't touched much on Japan yet; why not kill your historical AU and fantasy AU needs with one stone and write about the Japanese coverts (only they wouldn't be called coverts) and like. Captains Jin and Yamapi and Kame. Only they wouldn't be called captains, either, they'd be... maybe samurai are the ones attached to dragons. This calls for further thought.

I realize to everyone who has not read these books (and possibly to those who have) I sound insane.

edit: oh oh, okay, this meme looks really fun: the sing to me! meme. :D no, it does not actually involve any of you having to sing. just... okay, basically it's a songcall. *g*

[livejournal.com profile] petronia and I are supposed to be writing that fic. Er, the BL version, anyway. We really need to get on it. And yeah, I've always figured access to dragons would be a warrior-class privilege in Japan, although the scenarios in my head are pretty heavily colored by Chinese influence and...and Buddhism. XD;

Oh really! Oh, that would be great, both of you would do an excellent job. *_* And hey, I'm totally okay with BL version. *g* I would be the first to admit that anything pre-1854 Japan is not exactly my area of expertise, so it's a little hazy in my head -- sort of a confused jumble of Heian-style names and dragons at Osaka Castle and all that.
