For those familiar with Johnny's and/or Japanese business: okay, so, Johnny's & Associates is a kabushiki gaisha (K. K.). That's translated as "public company", but is it? Johnny owns 60%, Mary 10%, Julie 10%, and Izu Kikue 10%. The remaining 10% isn't publically traded (is it? it doesn't seem to be! if it is where are my financial reports!) and a K. K. may be formed as a "stock company that is not public" but J&A doesn't seem to be one - not that I can tell from their totally useless website. XD Avex and SM - omg especially Avex - are a dream in comparison.

In conclusion, I know embarrassingly little about corporate structure outside the U.S. :|

The remaining 10% is owned by Satan because Johnny was tired of striking up deals to make JE boys immortally beautiful all the time.

*shot*

XD I have no idea. Why are you interested?

Why are Avex and SM a dream...? I sort of understand, sort of don't... I don't think I'm the business/finance type of person at all :|

Because as they are both publicly traded corporations, they're required to disclose a certain amount of financial information to the public. So you can find all kind of records on their corporate website and even more, for SM, locked in the [livejournal.com profile] dbsg comm - the latter is in English, which is especially nice for me. :)

(Assuming it's all correct, of course. XD)

In other words, I'm just insatiably curious and they cater to me. ;)

Ah, I wonder if it got translated to English because of the hole only13 debacle and fans buying SME's shares XD

Maybe JE just doesn't have enough fans curious enough about it to translate them.

(who knows?)

That works! :D

Someone posted information from an English-language business website in the wake of the lawsuit, actually! That's what's nice, it doesn't have to be translated - it was information provided for an English-speaking audience. :) The thing with JE is that this kind of information simply isn't available - it's notorious for its opacity, as a matter of fact. Which is why I assumed it was a private company, but apparently it's... not, in name at least. (In practice I don't know how it could possibly get more private. XD)

Oh yes, the lawsuit, I wonder if they ever submitted the documents... Not following closely at all :| I like to stick to the shiny. :D

JE is totally known for its ~*mysterious*~ way of working XD

Does... does it makes a difference? It's kind of sad that I have gotten so confused from one paragraph. :(

Omg this post made me so happy. I would pay an insane amount of money for a book on the intricate details of the business side of JE. Srsly. Fascinating. T_T

sdjskla;ds you have no idea how reassuring this comment is, the others were starting to make me think this was really unusual or something. XD;;; I would kill for the book you describe, or a good look at their account books. This article (http://neojaponisme.com/2009/06/18/honda-kei-interview-in-cyzo/) is fascinating, though only peripherally related to JE. The site it's from, Neojaponisme, sheds some interesting light on JE every so often - I'll see if I can find some of the older posts.

i would be so completely interested in finding this stuff out. but from when i studied mass media in east asia, i just remember being struck by how closed and secretive the japanese media is. so it wouldn't surprise me if you couldn't find anything about it anywhere. however, the same memory reminded me about how certain journalists would end up really close to politicians and getting exclusives was basically a matter of ingratiating oneself into the politicians' lives. and that just makes me ITCH thinking of all the journalistic hookups je has. mmmm.

I have never studied anything like JE in class, but we had classes on Business in East Asia, and the Japan part about that was sadly not very detailed. I'm trying to remember now whether it was Japan that while naming a company one way was not necessarily required to maintian it that way? Meaning calling your business a stock company even though you do not trade it? Or just are in the process of attempting to join it on some exchange? I do not really remember, sorry. But damn, you certainly are not weird for askign that and even more certainly not the only one wondering.
