[translation] Spitz - Kaede

As I've mentioned before (...several times), Spitz aka スピッツ is more or less my favorite band in the entire world, and someday I will finish the pimp post I have been working on that explains in great detail why. *g* For now, here is a song of there's called "Kaede", or "Maple Tree". It was the very first Spitz song I heard, a wistful song that to me at least evokes the feel of autumn (maple tree imagery, etc.), and it makes me wibble like crazy. XD Like all of Kusano Masasmune's songs, the lyrics are as important as the music, so here is my shot at translating it.

Spitz - Kaede

Maple Tree

I won't forget, no matter how time flows away
Those teasing exchanges, and how even the thorns in my heart became small and blunted
If you smiled
What did you see, I wonder, from the opening we took turns looking through?
I had a dream I can't fulfill alone, but

Goodbye
I'll embrace your voice and walk on
Ah, how far will I reach, as I am?

I was searching, you know, until the day I met you
Now those words are nostalgic
Dotted clouds were scattered outside the window
Until that day
With a light spirit, as though it might fly away in the wind
Like other people, I believed in happiness, but

From now on I'll be hurt, even if I hurt someone else
Ah. how far will I reach, as I am?

The season as fleeting as the blink of an eye comes
And the names we called each other begin to echo

Can you hear them?

Come to think of it, this would quite a good song for Hiroto during those three years. D:

I look forward to the pimp post! Both the song and the lyrics are so pretty. :)

I'm so glad you like them! I realized later that maybe a slow song like this wasn't the best way to introduce what is primarily a rock band, but the lyrics are a lot more straightforward and easy to interpret than some of their other songs. *g*

[identity profile] winterspel.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, my favorite band is also a rock band but they have so many quiet songs and loud songs and slightly strange songs and long songs, that picking one is rarely going to be entirely representative unless I pick my twenty minute favorite (but that would just kill everyone), so I understand the dilemma.

The more important thing to me when someone pimps a song is that the song is one that they personally love, because then I try to understand that in context of what I know of the person or of what the choice tells me about you (which is separate from the objective aspect of listening/liking/not liking). If that makes sense.

Practically every time you mention Marillion, I think "I really have to check them out!" and it still hasn't happened. *shaaaaame*

And that does make sense. I love spreading music I like, but sometimes I'm hesitant to share songs that are too close to me, because I don't want to hear it if people don't like it. *g*

[identity profile] winterspel.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
because I don't want to hear it if people don't like it. *g*

I can TOTALLY understand this! However, it is not something you have to worry about with me. *smile* I rarely say that I don't like a song - that is usually reserved for what I REALLY don't like, death-oriented music or horrible sexist/racist/bigoted nonsense, or musically-speaking, screechy unmelodic sounds. It's one thing for a song to not grab me, but it's something entirely different if I actively don't like it.

And yes, you should totally check Marillion out. Have I given you album reccs? Seasons End (1989) and Marbles (2004) are the two I usually mention. I love to talk about them, but I rarely upload music because they support themselves (no record company) and all the members have families, so they can use their album sales! :) However, I shall endeavor to write something up with some samples some time. They're definitely not for everyone, though, so I won't feel bad if don't like them.

Pretty! This is such a beautiful song! I had never heard of this band before. Thank you so much!

You're welcome, I'm glad you like it! :D because resistance is futile. I try and spread the love as much as I can.

Spitz! *claps* I enjoy Spitz muchly! :) My friend introduced them to me about three years back with "RECYCLE" and I haven't really looked back.

It's funny because I don't always listen to them purposefully, but when I leave my iTunes on random and suddenly I hear a pretty song come up, I know it's Spitz. ^_- Or B'z, but I have more Spitz on my iPod. *chuckle*
ext_20958: (they're coming for you)

[identity profile] acchikocchi.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! More people who know Spitz! I heard "Kaede"... gosh, ages ago, I can't remember exactly when, but I didn't get hooked until [livejournal.com profile] canis_m started pimping them about four or five years back and it was true love. *_* It's funny, in the last year or so they've gotten a lot of exposure in Western circles because of the Honey and Clover anime, and while I'm thrilled they're more well known outside of Japan, I have this strange possessive feeling of "Hey! That's my band, that I found without some anime, thank you very much!" It's ridiculous! *g*

I keep meaning to try out more B'z! I only have two or three songs, all of which I like a lot, and they were/are so popular I should check them out for completeness' sake, if nothing else. But somehow I never get around to it...

You've never spazzed about SPITZ to me!

I wasn't sure about the song on the first listen, but I've been playing it all day and it's SO PRETTY. It had grow on me half-way through the third play. I look forward to the pimp post!

HAHAHAHA WATCH THAT CHANGE NOW.

I saw them live twice while I was in Japan, and I plan on managing it again this summer if it kills me. XD But yes. I am very glad you like. :D

Spitz is eternal love. Thank you again for this. I'm a die-hard fan of this band I can listen to all of their singles/albums in a 2-shift-office-work straight! <3

Oh man, yes -- that's one of the great things about Spitz for me, too, there are rarely any songs I would skip over. I can just start my music player on "Spitz" and listen on and on. I bet that makes work a lot nicer, too. :)

Actually, I'm going to Japan in a few weeks and I'm hoping to see them live since they'll be having a joint concert while I'm there! :D I managed to go to one of their concerts a couple years ago, while I was studying in Japan, and ever since I've been dying to see them again. ♥_♥

[identity profile] yejinzai.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Wooowww. I'm happy you can hear them again perform live. As for me, I think I will still count years before I can go to Japan. Hope the band is still intact by that time. I really love them I would cry if ever I see them perform live. <3<3<3
