Inspired to do this one by pithetaphish's excellent, excellent "BANDAGE" write-up. I hadn't really paid attention to the lyrics until I looked at it with an eye to translation and in the context of the film it's kind of, um, heart-breaking. D:

Translator's note: There's a pretty notable point of these lyrics that is not easy to convey in translation. At various points in the song, the singer uses two different words for "you" - omae and anata. I think it's pretty clear he's directing said lyrics at two different people, one of whom is indeed someone else (anata) and one of whom is himself, or his future self (omae). At any rate, as we only have one word for "you" in English, in translating the few lines that use anata I've italicized it: you. :)

I WANT TO. I would be lying if I didn't check for miraculously low fares again like last spring seeing as how February is solo concert time, too... alas, no. (Should I get into JET it'll probably be gone by August, won't it. Do they have such a thing as second-run theaters in Japan... or third- or fourth-run theaters... *grasps at straws*)

I've never seen any second-run theatres here, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. By August though likely the DVD will be out - Japan seems to average about 6 months between theatrical and home releases - so you won't need to go looking further than your local Tsutaya. Still, it is stunning on the big screen.

For the record, I listened to the acoustic version more closely after I posted this and it's different from the full version - among other things, the chorus is "Genki dase yo, motto". But no youna's anywhere, you were right. :D

After listening to it several hundred times, from what I can hear it's just the opening verse(chorus) that's different:

ああ　許せない（たの？）
引き下がれない（たの？）　- he sure as heck doesn't sing 'だろう'
元気出せよ、もっと
元気元気を
笑顔を見せて走り出せ

And if I'm hearing that last line correctly and interpreting it right, with the 'running' implying 'running away'...
