1. Ah~ Hayato, even when the situation is what it is, still finds a way to compete with Ryu. I hope they make up somewhere down the line in this 'verse.

It wasn’t until Hayato’s face fell that Ryu could see where the hope had been hidden.

Oh wow - only on the second (fourth, seventh - who's counting?) reading did I see past the HOT and see that Hayato lashing out like this is cruel - I know he isn't exactly toying with Ryu, since it's something at the back of Hayato's mind for a while, but it's still cruel, and desperate, and angry. Not forgetting smouldery!hot. Did I mention it was hot?
And then Ryu realized, with dull shock, that Hayato was about to cry. *CRIES*
3. The five united v. Yankumi. I can't decide who would have come out on top - this is one of my favourites because of how they're interacting - the booing, the "Yabuki-sensei", Hayato pleased he made Ryu smile - lovely. It's exactly how I thought it had been pre-drama and Ara High.
4. and it was then that Hayato finally realized even the silence had changed.
*WIBBLES* HAYATO TRIED SO HARD SO HARD skfjsj *CRIES*
5. OMG THIS MAKES ME HAPPY! Ryu cleared his throat. All eyes turned on him. Even though they have only just met, they slip into the patterns of interation we expect from them - like when Ryu speaks - on the occasions he does - the others listen to him, voice of reason. AND THEN HE LAUGHS AND HAYATO IS PLEASED sldkjfsflhgh In any Gokusen2 fic I can't get away from the thought that, when high school is over and they don't have that daily contact to keep them together, they would all drift apart. In this 'verse, meeting later, I think they might have an easier time of it staying together since they don't have to navigate that awkward period between high school life ending and adult life beginning.
