Wow, thank you, I'm kinda blown away by this comment! It's particularly satisfying to hear that the imaginary future seemed realistic and plausible - I've always felt that second generation fic is tough to get right, so I'm especially gratified to hear you say so as a regular reader of the genre. :)

What you say makes complete sense! It's complicated: she wants her father to recognize her as a player independent of her existence as his daughter, but she can barely understand (or allow herself to understand) his own life as a player beyond the looming shadow of My Father The World Cup Winner until he does it first. She probably would have come to understand more as she got older anyway, but external circumstances speeded things up.

I didn't want the explication of the state of female football and its differences to be too overt or take up too much of the narration, because to Zaida they're normal - she's used to the extra challenges and the little unfairnesses everywhere and barely registers most of them by now, because she's so goal-oriented -- how to get over the hurdle, not how it got there. Villa Tunnel Vision. ;)

And now my answer's gotten long in return, so I'll wrap this up with another, very sincere thank you for the lovely comment and for stopping to read in the first place. <3
