two b's

Finals are over yet mysteriously I am not actually less busy, for Reasons That Shall Remain Unnamed for another couple weeks. I tend to use a reward system to motivate myself to study/work/complete various other obligations and the last couple weeks the reward has been rewatching Battlestar Galactica, or at least my favorite parts (i.e. not so much with the prophecies and cylon baseships and eyes of jupiter). Observations:
- They're auctioning off pretty much every single piece of the props and set in January, coinciding with the premiere of season 4.5. While I am not nearly crazy enough to pay the prices these are expected to command, I kind of like the idea of having, you know, a Viper in my basement. (Or having Kara Thrace's dog tags, because Special Destiny aside, my attitude towards Starbuck is nothing less than starry-eyed hero worship.)
- Song I most want to see a BSG vid to: Lo Fidelity Allstars' "Battleflag". Oh please. Oh please oh please.
- Felix Gaeta = Percy Weasley?? (either way, Felix Gaeta = ♥_♥ Why yes, I have been wriggling in anticipation of the webisodes, why do you ask...)

The other thing that's been consuming my minimal free time:

- News of the Blur reunion has caused my thus far fairly dormant and musically-confined interest to supernova. (Considering I got into their music in high school it's a miracle I was as clueless about the interpersonal drama as I was, because I would have eaten it up -- that would have been during the period of, ahaha, intense friction, and of course I heard all about Graham Coxon leaving but otherwise I really didn't pay much attention to... any of the members... I mean I didn't even know Damon Albarn was part of Gorillaz until a couple years ago. ^^; [livejournal.com profile] wintersjuly was treated to the, ah, unique pleasure of receiving emails detailing my fascinating discoveries roughly every 15 minutes.) Reading up on everything that's been occuring has been great; I said to someone it's just like watching a giant real-time roleplay of the standard JE/bandom/popslash reunion fix-it fic. Glorious. XD
- I was going to say, to be clear about why this is so appealing, just like the fic I wrote only in Britpop instead of JE, but upon further reflection that isn't quite true; the equivalent of TAY*J would be more along the lines of if Graham Coxon returned to form a special unit with, oh, Noel Gallagher. ...when you put it that way the feelings of certain people towards the tay*j fic are completely and totally understandable to me. (The analogy has its flaws but work surprisingly well when you take into account the -- the aesthetic differences at hand. So to speak. XD)
- Further proof that bassists are always the coolest: Alex James also has a degree in astrophysics and was the "Artist in Residence" of Oxford's astronomy department ahahahaha. I think I'm in love.

This has also reminded me of an old webcomic I used to read called Nova Next Exit. (The connection is that one of the characters was based on Graham Coxon... of course.) Sadly, it looks like it's long since disappeared -- anyone else remember it? Anyone else have it saved if I wanted to reread it, or know anyone who has

good morning afternoon! ♥♥

i don't think it requires much of a constructive response, anyway, it has a pretty narrow focus. XD

BATTLESTAR! I can't wait for the ending, if only to see how Admiral Adama saves everyone with his pouty face of sadness, because oh, he is my hero.

asdjkad;lsd oh my god I am so excited for the end. I LOVE Adama and I really hope he makes it through. D: I -- I'm not getting my hopes up too far, though, because I somehow doubt that Adama and Roslin and Lee and Kara will all survive and, and I want them to the most. ;_; (And Gaeta, I want him to survive and get a new leg that fits and a puppy to make up for his awful life oh my god.)

Ahhh Blur. They bring back memories. I'm intrigued? I mean they broke up in such a messy, messy way that I'm curious to see if they can make it work again. I hope they can--their music was
brilliant
.

Graham Coxon and Noel Gallagher in a unit together would be...wow. I swear I was the only person in the UK who did not like Oasis. Such an overhyped band ajsjkd.

A more thorough reply later because you can guess what I'm frantically working ahahaha but GOD I HATE NOEL GALLAGHER'S FACE.

That is to say, I concur! XD

thank youuuuuuuuuuuuu. good luck collecting from the delinquents such as myself. D: (my problem: THIS #$%@&! STORY KEEPS GROWING it was supposed to be around 4-5k and i keep writing and it keeps getting longer but the action doesn't actually progress arghhhhh *tears out hair*)

All these comments do a lot to preserve anonymity. oh yes.

There's a fine line between being irritating enough to be entertaining (and to make everyone else's reaction entertaining) and so irritating that it actually gets under my skin and my friend Noel leaped right over it. XD I just have to -- not think about him if I listen to Oasis.

I think I'd like a Viper in my (hypothetical) basement just so I could say I have a Viper in my basement and see what kind of funny looks I'd get.

An I have absolutely no idea who the Blur is, but I do agree that anyone who is a bassist in a band and also has a degree in astrophysics is clearly awesome (or the biggest dork ever, but I'm okay with that too).

*beams* It would be great. On further reflection a Cylon raider would be equally pleasing given the sleek, evil design.

On one of their albums he sings a song consisting mainly of the names of various moons and stars, and he named his son Galileo, so I'm going to go with biggest dork ever, but to me that comes out cool. XD

asdfjkl; Why is he in a band if he's an astrophysicist?

The band came first -- he went back to get the astrophysics degree for fun. *grins*

HAHAHAHA I KNOW RIGHT. He - he's just really, really interested in space? Alex James is pretty Special all 'round, actually; he lives with his wife and four children on a cheese farm in the Cotswolds and is quite a good writer as well. I mean, I couldn't make this up. XD

[identity profile] petronia.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Alex James has an honorary degree. XD He was an A-student in high school aiming to do science at Oxford but failed his exams due to playing in a band instead of studying. Then he went to art school to study French lit and failed out due to playing in a band instead of studying. Then he became a rock star.

Blur are frightening overachievers. XD;; The three members who are not Graham are currently heading a digital animation software firm, an organic farm, and a multimedia entertainment complex respectively. That's besides running for Parliament, going to law school, publishing books, hosting TV series, flying planes, staging operas, organizing the Beijing-London Olympic handover, putting out a few records here and there, and so on. Ironically I was totally fine with them not reuniting the band as the upshot was Damon and Graham are putting out albums twice as fast. XD;

Ahhh, okay, that makes a bit more sense. XD My (admittedly not terribly in-depth) initial information-gathering sprees brought up that it was an honours degree from sometime after he became a rockstar and I was -- considerably surprised and rather impressed, ahaha -- but upon further research that doesn't appear anywhere beyond blogs/Wikipedia/the like. (And I can see how the mix-up would have occured.) I've gotten so spoiled by bands/scenes that developed their fanbase mostly post-big-Internet-fandoms -- okay, I really mean by bandom XD;; -- it seems much easier to find reliable chronologies and such.

I'm somewhere between genuine emotional investment and not wanting to spoil the story arc. XD What it comes down to is that I like happy endings and this fanbase really seems to deserve one.

[identity profile] petronia.livejournal.com 2008-12-14 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Now I'm getting confused because that's what I understood, but I don't remember where the info came from. XD; OTOH dude didn't mention it in his book, and he talks about stargazing / flying to Mars constantly, so. (I should write that review I promised someone else.)

Damn straight the fanbase seems to deserve a happy ending - dudes have been promising periodically to 1) make records 2) play gigs 3) get Graham back in the band since 2005. XD; In retrospect it's obvious that Damo just couldn't muster the enthusiasm and had to go off and do other stuff while waiting for Gra to luv him again but in the meantime everyone took him seriously when he was like I HAS EVOLVED BEYOND BLUR ARTISTICALLY and stuff. Naivete that is unlikely to be repeated. XD

Oh yes, please do write that review, I would be v. interested. :) (And that's more or less what I figured.)

*dies* When you put it like that... XD It sounds so fanfiction.net.
